Download Help

Updated March 15th

This page will show you how to access a file server, queue a file, and also show you what to expect when using mIRC.

*** PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE PAGE BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DOWNLOAD!  IT WILL SAVE EVERYONE LOTS OF TIME!!!  ***

First off, you will see the channel window (Figure 1.1).  Yours will look differently than the one pictured, but the windows will generally be in the same place.  You will notice the labels on Figure 1.1.  Please look them over so you will know where everything is located.

Figure 1.1

After becoming familiar with Figure 1.1, it's time to see how to find a trigger, and what a trigger is (Figure 1.2).

To see a list of triggers, you must use the command !list.  Type it into the chat bar at the bottom, and press enter.  A list of triggers will flood down the screen.  To see what you want, look at the Messages following people's triggers (Figure 1.3).  It usually describes what they have in their fileserver, or "fserv" is another term you will frequently hear.  The trigger and the message will not always be next to each other.  So look carefully for each.

Figure 1.2

Figure 1.3

The person shown above has more than one trigger.  You can see where one trigger starts by looking for /ctcp.  The trigger ends when you see the "&" symbol.  Then the next trigger begins.

For example, say you wanted Yu-Gi-Oh! Episodes.  You would NOT copy all the triggers.  That would result in a flood.  Below is an example of an individual trigger (Figure 1.4).

Figure 1.4

Notice, there are no "&" signs, or other signs.  Only put what falls between either the "[" and "&", "&" and "&", or "&" and "]".  They are never included in the actual trigger.

NOTE:  Some triggers do not have /ctcp (this channel uses ONLY /ctcp) in them.  Instead, like !list, they use "!" (example: !DIGIMON)

After you type (or copy/paste) in the trigger you want, press enter.  A box will pop up containing something like Figure 1.5 below.

Figure 1.5

Once you have the connection established, it's time to learn some commands.  There are a list of them, but you will only need to know a few for the time being.  Such as:  "DIR", "GET", "CD", and "CD..".

From here on out, everything you type will be in the window that popped up.  Not in the channel window.

We will use the Digimon trigger from Kouichi_Kimura's fserv as the first example.  Now when you enter the trigger, you will put it in as the following:

/ctcp Kouichi_Kimura Cool Digimon Eps n Raws

(Capitalization does not matter)

Once entered, Figure 1.5 will happen.  After which you will need to type DIR to see what is available to you.  Sometimes there will be files right away, but more often, you will see folders (Please note you can NOT download an entire folder at once).  You will then see what is pictured in Figure 1.6.

Figure 1.6

Since we have folders here, you need to choose one.  Let's say you wish to download Season 3, and want the Japanese episodes.

In this case, you will type "CD" (Current Directory) and then "Season 03 - Sub".

It will look like this:   CD Season 03 - Sub

Press enter.  If successful, it will show you that you have entered the Season 03 - Sub Directory.  You will know what this looks like.

Then, again, type DIR.  This time you will see filename(s).

When you see the episode you want, you then type "GET" and the name of the episode.  Please see Figure 1.7 regarding all of the above information.

Figure 1.7

Now one of two things is going to happen.  IF you get the above message, saying your file is in queue, it will not send right away.  You have to wait for those ahead of you to finish and for a send slot to open before your file can be sent.

Another note... DO NOT LEAVE THE CHANNEL IF YOU HAVE A FILE IN QUEUE.  If you leave before your file sends, when it is time to send it your queue will be dropped by default. Make sure you close the fserv window once you have finished queue'ing files.

If however you get the "SENDING FILE" message instead of the Queue message, you will notice something added to your mIRC taskbar as shown in Figure 1.8.  (The last box in this row is the GET.)

Figure 1.8

If you click on the GET box, a little box will come up showing the details of the send.  An example of this is Figure 1.9.

Figure 1.9

After you are queued or your Get begins, you must close the fserv window that opened as a result of the trigger.  In most cases, people have set the window to automatically close.  This is nothing to be alarmed about.  If you received the notice that you are queued, and the window closes, your queue is STILL THERE.  You do not need to go back in and do it again or stay there.

Now you should be all set to download!  HAVE FUN and remember to idle in the channel to help us grow!
